Volunteers keep historic Kirkwood station on track

KIRKWOOD • As the 87 passengers waited for the departure of the Missouri River Runner from the Kirkwood Amtrak station on the day before Thanksgiving, a devoted volunteer depot staff kept them informed of the train’s progress.

The group is on hand to bid passengers farewell or welcome them home four times a day, 365 days a year.

“They need hardly any supervision,” says Kirkwood Mayor Arthur McDonnell. “When their shift begins, they just show up and do an exceptional job.”
