An 82-game NHL season is a marathon. It becomes a war of attrition, testing organizational depth and player fortitude.
A condensed 48-game slate is more of a sprint, placing a premium on starting fast and sustaining momentum.
“There are no easy points,” Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said after running his Sunday practice. “Columbus yesterday, they give it to Detroit big time. All you have to do is be a little bit tired on a back-to-back (game), be a little bit travel-weary and you get smoked.
