The team that was the best fit for Lance Berkman also apparently made the best offer.
The veteran switch-hitter and the Texas Rangers were close to finalizing an agreement Saturday. Berkman confirmed to MLB.com his one-year deal with the club, and multiple reports, including one from Fox Sports, pegged the value of his contract at $10 million with a $1 million buyout on an option for 2014.
The Post-Dispatch reported last week that Berkman, who spent the past two seasons with the Cardinals, had received two offers and that the Rangers appeared the most natural fit.
