Big O liqueur has roots in St. Louis

Looking back, Bill Foster and Kathy Kuper realize that starting up a liquor company from scratch was a pretty crazy idea.

“We were lucky,” Kuper jokes. “We didn’t know that we couldn’t do it.”

The story of the Big O, now available in bars, restaurants and liquor stores in St. Louis and a few other nearby regions, has its beginnings about 15 years ago in a London restaurant, where Foster, then an education professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and his wife, Kuper, a photojournalist and video editor taking time off to raise their son, had their first sip of the liqueur limoncello.
