Cardinals vs. Giants vs. Mother Nature: Storms, tornadoes possible during Game 3
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- In addition to our hometown Cardinals and their NLCS challengers from San Francisco, a third team will pay a visit to Busch Stadium this afternoon: Team Weather.
The 4Warn meteorologists are tracking a cold front as it approaches St. Louis from the west. It should pass through the St. Louis area Wednedsay evening. But ahead of it, rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop and move across eastern Missouri and western Illinois.
Meteorologist Matt Chambers says rain is possible before the scheduled 3:00 p.m. Cardinals game, but the stronger storms will likely hit a bit later in the afternoon and evening.
“I’m expecting scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., but it actually looks like the highest chance of rain and thunderstorms, along with the potential of heavier rain and severe thunderstorms, will run from about 4:00 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m. in the metro area," Chambers said.
Chambers said the primary severe weather threat would be damaging straight-line winds, but cautioned that hail and even a few small, brief tornadoes could not be ruled out in some parts of the News4 viewing area.
So what does all this mean for Wednesday's game? Time will tell, but here’s Matt’s take…
“As of now, this doesn’t look like a rain-out to me. We might even be able to get started on time, with higher rain chances hitting in the mid-to-late innings. If we’re willing to put up with a delay or two, I think we’ll get this game in. And hopefully, we’ll walk away up two games to one, even if we do walk away soggy.”
