So, today, we bid adieu to the 2012 St. Louis Cardinals. A good season that nevertheless leaves a bittersweet taste for what might have been.
Of course, I wonder sometimes, amid all the prayers and God-talk that always seem to surround professional sports—especially come playoff time—I wonder how the Redbirds' most pious fans now feel. I read more than a few Facebook updates this past week imploring prayers on behalf of the Hometown Team. I even saw one last night, in the middle of the Game 7 fiasco, that asked if "we" were praying ardently and earnestly enough...
