SAN FRANCISCO • History says the Cardinals' team charter should have returned to St. Louis early Saturday morning rather than going on to the Bay Area.
A team trailing by six runs in a make-or-break postseason game had never rallied to win. Only twice had teams overcome four-run deficits. The piece of trivia became relevant when the Washington Nationals took a 6-0 lead after three innings of Friday's Game 5 of the National League division series.
