Jay Bouwmeester has played in 750 NHL games, including 621 uninterrupted. He has never appeared in a playoff game.

The Blues are banking — literally banking — that a marriage with Bouwmeester could bolster their chances of getting into the playoffs and finally get the all-star defenseman his first crack in the postseason.

Ending a 10-month infatuation with making Bouwmeester the lefthanded-shooting blue-liner they craved in their top pair, the Blues pulled off a stunningly inexpensive trade with the Calgary Flames on Monday, nabbing the NHL’s current “Ironman” for a first-round pick and two prospects.
