Billikens blast No. 9 Butler

Even for a team that pays as much attention to defense as St. Louis U. does, what the Billikens did to No. 9 Butler on Thursday was something else.

In front of the largest crowd ever at Chaifetz Arena, 10,612, SLU led early and large quantities against Butler on its way to an emphatic 75-58 win. In easily the most impressive win of the season for the Billikens, SLU reminded people that, yes, it is a factor in the Atlantic 10 race, though about half the league can say that at this point. In their first home game since a sobering loss to Rhode Island, pressured Butler into 23 turnovers and scored its first win over a top 10 team since a win over No. 2 Louisville in 2003. And this wasn’t a nailbiter. SLU took the lead early in the first half and ran away with it. It was SLU’s biggest win ever over a ranked team and the student section responded by storming the court, something that they clearly need some work on.
